On the worst day in The 21st Century, starting at around 8:45 AM, nearly 3,000 people lost their lives. It took nearly three years for the group of attacks to claim responsibility for these horrific attacks. September 11 had deadly effects, numerous harmful attacks, devastating damage, and other dreadful results. Several tons of toxic chemicals contaminated the air making about 2,500 people sick. By 2010 nearly 40 percent of these sick people were not yet cured. This shows that nearly half of the people who were sick due to the attacks were not yet cured 9 years after. This caused the plane to crash in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. At 7:59 A.M. American Airlines flight 11 left Boston heading to Los Angeles. This plane would later be the first involved in what is now being known as the worst terrorist attack on the United States. Fifteen minutes later, United Airlines flight 175 left Boston. This aircraft was also enroute to Los Angeles. The time on September 11 was now 8:20 AM and American Airlines flight 77 departed from Washington D.C. During its route to Los Angeles hijackers gained control of the plane and flew it into the Pentagon. At 8:41 AM flight 93 left Newark Liberty International Airport. The time all New Yorkers dreaded, 8:46 AM when American Airlines flight 11 struck the North World Trade Tower. Many people in the area believed it was just a freak accident and did not know this was one of four horrific attacks that would happen on that Tuesday morning. At 9:03 AM as people in the towers and around were trying to make an exit from the buildings, and were shocked when United flight 175 hit the South World Trade Tower. This attack was meant to be destructive and harmful than it actually was. The eight year later hijackings occurred as a result to the “Unsuccessful Attempt” as the terrorist group referred to the 1993 bomb attempt. On September 11, 2001 19 hijackers conducted the horrendous attacks. There were about 5 hijackers per passenger plane. The victims of the attacks ages ranged from two to eighty-five. Of these people 80% were men. As it can be concluded, it took an extended period of time for officials to clean-up the damage caused by the attacks.
