At a time in our history it was once believed and enforced by our government that two men were not created equal, not by the premise of his character but by the color of his skin. Leading up to the Civil War, there were many disputes that triggered much debate within the country, the need for slavery and other new ideas inside the sections of the nation, the election of Abraham Lincoln, and how all compromises that prevented an imminent war were useless due to newly passed laws and decisions in government. The cause of the Civil War was most greatly impacted by political effects. While social effects had an impact on the war, political events such as the Dred Scott Decision had a bigger role in causing the war. As the text explains the Dred Scott Decision it describes the event by saying, “Where justices found that, as a slave, Dred Scott was a piece of property that had none of the legal rights or recognitions afforded to a human being. The Dred Scott Decision threatened to entirely recast the political landscape that had thus far managed to prevent civil war”(“Trigger Events”). This shows that politics and actions from the government, such as the Dred Scott Decision changed how governments dealt with problems because all guidelines that were set from preexisting laws had become useless. The fights in government created tensions which lead to the split in the nation and then argument between people, this means that social interactions and arguments were side effects from the actions taken in government. Overall, social impacts did not have the biggest impact, but political effects did cause the Civil War because without political act, social interactions that caused tensions would never have occurred, therefore politics caused the split, and the
