1. Ecotourism
Ecotourism adds significant positive contributions in the way people are informed/ educated about the environmental they are vacationing at. This may deal with learning about the wildlife or experiencing the local culture. On top of that individuals are able to appropriate the culture correctly or being able to experience the wildlife in a safely manner. People that take these tours are going into areas that can be considered endangered or unsafe, due to pervious perceptions. However, with these tours these stereotypes/ views of the geographic location and customs of the land. The outcome that they want from this is that the local people would be the ones to hold the tours or they will bring these individuals to local restaurants or even gift shops. On the other hand, there is a negative aspect to ecotourism, because even though people have good intentions they can still add to endangering the area. For instance, the example you gave in class about individuals taking animals from the great barrier reef, even though they did not mean any harm. Their intention might have a bad side effect later on if everyone continues to steal animals and change the infrastructure of the ecosystem of that area. Another disadvantage of the eco-tourism is that the natives of these countries become tourist themselves, because of the disproportional affects that tourism has. My reasoning behind this is because the U.S military has a high involvement in helping the Middle and South America with this “war on drugs”. However, its intentions can be seen as hypocritical because there is still the issue of the high demand for these drugs in the United States, but the United states is not focused on that. Instead their focused in on the fight against the war against drugs in foreign territory and not own their own land. The War on Drugs also as a consequence disintegrate the little democracy these Middle and South American countries have. The fight against the war on drugs is stepping outside of its boundaries under what we considered democracy because human rights are less important. The United States is key player in this war against drugs because they’re the ones helping to train these soldiers and also when it comes to the Mexican – American border they want to build up a strong structure so drugs do not flow through. So they want to keep a key role to protect their own national security, rather than worrying about the democracy of these Latin American countries. In order to further help democracy in these regions countries like the United States need to helping because of their own intentions.
