Every society is based off a fundamental structure of moral, values, systems; right from wrong. The code of the Hammurabi has been one of the most important discoveries in history since it was a mere example of how societies are managed in order to maintain control in the community. While the Hammurabi laws were somehow extreme by employing death punishments, it is not so different from what it is today in our modern world. To begin, social responsibility has been a part of us, almost as if we were born with the instinct to know what it is allowed and what is not. While we do not establish death as the general punishment for every offense, we do have consequences for the type of offense being committed. We all have adopted the Hammurabi system in one way or another. Based on the examples already mentioned, in the U.S system they would handle differently yet with the same deep purpose and both presented as written laws. Also, the U.S laws and Hammurabi Laws share the same objectives such as regulations and codes of conducts to everyone including civilians, judges, officials and witnesses. The Hammurabi code as well its pretty barbaric, while the U.S constitution is more realistic and less drastic in some offenses. It is evident that the times in which the code was developed were different and consequently the laws were more severe. For instance, if a man steals or kills another man’s minor child, the criminal’s son will get cut off. The time we are currently living on has allowed us to develop a more understandable code of conduct system (constitution) where civilians are allowing to express their differences on what they believe is right from wrong. I think Hammurabi’s Code was just because, one of his laws was. If a free man was to know out the other man’s eye was to be knocked out as well. Therefore, it’s protecting the victim’s eye. That was law 196. In my opinion, I don’t think this law was bad, it’s protecting the free man but if a slave’s eye was to be knocked out. The other person would have to pay have of the slave’s owner ship to his master.

Before he died, Hammurabi was a person who created many laws. He created a code of 282 fair laws (BGE). He created his law on a stone seal. He made the laws to control the city-state of Babylonia. He was a ruler of a huge city-state in Mesopotamia for 42 years. He made laws for 1,000,000 people that each person had to follow or they would be punished on what they did. The way they were punished depended on what they did. There were 3 categories Family law, Property law, and Personal-Injury law. Was Hammurabi’s code just? We as people have always searched for a code of morals and conduct. It is what has held empires, nations, and families from falling into chaos. This is what the code of Hammurabi and the law of Moses instituted in maintaining order. Both laws have a strong foundation and way of promoting justice that rivals many systems today in regards to effectiveness. Many of the laws given were later used in future governments. There are many similarities and differences between these documents, and this analysis will share some of the those. These two documents provide rich resources and were made for two specific peoples because of women’s rights found in the code, the consequences of actions when violating code, and the vision of the laws created.
The Code of Hammurabi has a slightly different way of describing the way a society should maintain stability and avoid chaos. In this code of conduct it is more on the lines of something similar to the Bill of Rights where each idea is stated in form of a law. For example, in the 15th amendment of The Code it staes “15: If any one take a male or female slave of the court, or a male or female slave of a freed man, outside the city gates [to escape], he shall be put to death.” It is a listed set of laws followed by a consequence whether it is minor or as harsh as the death penalty. The author of the Code also makes some key assumptions while writing his laws. Hammurabi must assume that the members of his kingdom have the same values and morals that he does. He writes as if everyone will agree with each law written, and makes no provision for members of society to disagree with him. Hammurabi also assumes that the punishment he prescribes will be enough to deter crime and prevent repeat offenders. When prescribing the incentives given to doctors, Hammurabi made assumptions about how much money it would take to encourage doctors to practice medicine and shipbuilders to build ships.

It establishes a person’s duties and obligations. The law also sets penalties for those who violate the rules. It helps teach us right from wrong. In Law 196, it describes what happens if someone injures a free person: the person who injured the free man will get one of his eyes knocked out while Law 199 it states if someone injures a slave, then that person has to pay half of the slaves value. While Laws 196 and 199 go together, laws 209 and 213 also match up. Law 209 explains that if someone hurts the daughter of a free man and makes her lose her baby, the person who hurt the daughter has to pay 10 shekels of silver while Law 213 states that if a slave-girl is injured by a free man and loses her baby, the person who injured the slave only has to pay 2 shekels of silver which is less money than if someone hurts a daughter that is free who is also the daughter of a free man.
The Hammurabi Code and Mosaic Law were used to lead their people during two different era. They were similarities and differences, between the two. For example, they were both discovered by their leaders in similar ways, but differed in their approach to justice and morality. Hammurabi Code respects women, but has distinct social class and penalties based on the class you belonged to, while the Mosaic Law had no distinction between people and gave everybody even fairness.
