Have you ever seen a seen a beautiful women or man, you thought to yourself, “wow they must be perfect.” So you decide to approach this person, after talking to them you realize they are not as perfect as they seem. They may be very rude and have a nasty attitude. This is the idea of dreams versus reality; when we dream about something we imagine it being perfect, but when it comes to reality we see that that may not always be the case. In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s works, “The Baby Part” and “Myra Meets His Family we see that the main characters dreams do not translate into their realities. In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short story “Absolution” the priest says something to the child about dreams and reality. He states “‘well go and see an amusement park.’ The priest waved his hand vaguely. ‘It’s a thing like a fir, only much more glittering. Go to one at night and stand a little way off from it in a dark place- under dark tress. You’ll see a big wheel made of lights turning in the air, ad a long slide shooting down into the water. A band playing somewhere, and a smell of peanuts- and everything will twinkle. But it won’t remind you of anything, you see. It will all just hang out in the night like a colorized balloon- like a big yellow lantern on a pole … but don’t get up close, because if you do you’ll only feel the heat and the sweat and the life.’” This quote means that from afar our dreams may seem like things of beauty and loveliness; in actuality you will only feel the truth and pain of life.
