While many students claim to be engrossed in the medical field, one being myself, ultimately, only a few students take action towards their interest at a young age and go ahead on to pursue the field. Therefore, students who are sincere about their interest have a tendency to portray interest in minor research experiments, being in a medical field regardless of any materialistic reward, and being able to experience the true work of someone of the medical field.
Although I am now at fifteen years of age, my interest in the medical field rose at a very young age. While most young children were afraid of visits to the doctor, I was rather fascinated by how much one person could do. At that age, I remember reenacting surgery on my stuffed animals by cutting slits into them, and then mending them with Band-Aids, and eventually by allowing my mother to sew them together again. Shortly after these events, my elementary school made it mandatory that every student from the third grade onwards conduct an experiment or project to be submitted in the school science fair. Even though I was only in the third grade, the projects I chose were always classified in microbiology or medicine and health. After finally reaching the sixth grade, I was eligible to attend the regional science fair. Even then, while doing a project on the effects of yeast, I managed to win second place. Year after year, my projects continued to advance, and in eighth grade, my project reached a higher level when I was set to prove whether hand sanitizers actually killed 99.9% bacteria as they claimed to. Exposure to different areas of medicine is very beneficial, as medical school does not initially emphasize on simply one specialization. I too would be a great asset to the program, as I am social, which is necessary to interact with patients, and I am responsible as well, which makes me eligible to handle expensive equipment that the hospital may own. Also, I do not get frightened at the sight of blood, which can potentially serve to be dangerous. The program also teaches certification in basic first aid skills, which are necessary regardless of what field a student may want to pursue. This program would be a great experience over the summer, and would also give me a chance to experience the life of medical field personnel.
With many medical careers students often get confused on what they really want to study, I have faced this problem myself and I know is not that easy due too many choices. There are many options ranging from healthcare to medical jobs. I have thoughtfully chosen to enter the program for Medical Assistant (MA). Ever since I was a child, I’ve spent most of childhood years at the Hospital, I was diagnosed with a rare condition that had to be treated continuously, this meant that I had to be going to checkups every three months so I was close to doctors, surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologist, medical assistants, etc. I remember at first I was frightened just of the thought of going to the doctor but after a few visits I got used to. The doctors and nurses were nice and caring and made me feel comfortable that I end up enjoying my doctor’s visits every time. Since then I decided I wanted to work in the medical field, this is my goal since I can remember. I have always enjoyed helping people in any way I possibly can. I chose to be a Medical Assistant because I think is great way to start my medical career going and programs are practical and not long.
I want to learn more about the medical field. I am very fascinated in the science aspects. You need to be attentive; sensitive to people’s needs and have a drive to address their needs in an utmost concerned manner. It is one of those jobs that require long working hours and often one must overlook one’s needs and cater to patients. I am a sensitive and very hard-working individual.
Practicing in the medical field is a respectable profession, since its main goal is to help others when they are in need. Although, I’m not sure of what job I will have, I do know that it will be in the field of medicine. Due to my pleasurable experiences as an undergraduate at Temple, I explored the TUSM without hesitation as an option for my medical school education. My affinity for biology comes from my childhood days that I spent watching dissection of rats and looking at the cellular structure under microscope. My mother, being a professor of biology regularly used to take me with her to a Biology lab and that is where my journey towards medical career began. Early on in my life, my family went through a long agony of my father's illness and death. After graduation, I took a hiatus from education to re-evaluate my goals and interests. Although I thoroughly evaluated my competence and desire to attend medical school, I thought it necessary to take another year to do so; given the importance of such a decision. The motivation to pursue Medicine as a career have been frequently presented as a few typical clichés. Some say “I’ve always known that Medicine was the career for me.” Others say “I was often sick as a child” thus “the hospital was an integral part of my life” while others use the typical “Dr. ________ changed my life and I always wanted to be just like him/ her”. While some these things ring true of my own life experience, there were numerous, sometimes unrelated things, that have influenced my decision and fueled my desire to pursue Medicine. I am particularly drawn to Internal Medicine because of its complex problem solving opportunities, emphasis on team centered adult care, and the never-ending learning opportunities it affords.
My passion for a career in Clinical laboratory science stems from a key experience with a li-censed Clinical laboratory scientist. On one day in the church , I was in dire need of help finding a job that can help me study medical in the future. For the first time I encountered professional-ism, knowledge, and humanity all at once. And this wasn’t a one-off experience. Throughout my life, I have worked towards one goal which is to become a doctor. Medicine offers the opportunity for me to integrate different scopes of science while trying to improve human life. Medicine has intrigued me throughout all my life because it??s a never ending mystery and every answer has questions, and vice versa. Upon entering my career, I had assumed that professional and financial success would surely bring personal fulfillment. This realization triggered a process of self-searching that led me to medicine. The commitment to provide others with healthcare is a serious decision for anyone. As I examined my interests and goals, however, I underwent a process of personal growth that has propelled me towards a career as a physician. A career in medicine will allow me to integrate thoroughly my passion for science into a public-service framework. Since childhood, I have loved acquiring scientific knowledge, particularly involving biological processes. During my undergraduate studies, I displayed my ability to juggle competing demands while still maintaining my academic focus; I have succeeded at school while volunteering part time, spending time with family and friends, and working part-time. To better serve my expected patient population, I worked over my English and Korean language skills. I have come to discover that a job and even a good income, without another significant purpose, will not bring satisfaction. I planed to utilize my assets, namely my problem- solving affinity, strong work ethic, and interpersonal commitment, to craft a stimulating, personally rewarding career in medicine.
