The purpose of this extended essay is to draw a comparison between The Alchemist by Paulo and the old man and the Sea by Hemingway as examining the question “How Paulo and Hemingway use the conflict between man versus nature in their novella?”. The scope of this essay is to encompass two works but actually a contrast which is focusing on the different treatment of nature by these above authors. This paper explores the ‘Naturalism’ having the different exposures of nature, one is benevolent facet and the other is malevolent in both selected works. The aim of this essay is to discover the differentiating components of man versus nature clashes happen when a character, or characters, end up inconsistent with powers of nature and how the character perceive its nature. May be characters struck in desert as (Santiago in Alchemist), characters whose boat struggles( like Santiago in The Old man and the Sea) in a tempest and a character who fight against hypothermia in a snow storms are all characters encountering man versus nature conflicts. There are instances when nature appears to be potent, indomitable and unusual, where no wisdom or mechanical advances may come being used. Examples where information and innovative advances have no utilization are in natural calamities, for instances,storms, tornadoes and droughts. However, there are times where men can defeat some of what nature has tossed at us by achieving basic tasks, for example, sprucing up .taking everything into account, at last people can overcome nature yet now and again it might appear to be incomprehensible in light of the fact that mankind is considered a part of nature's
