Thaddeus Smith a conniving thief, who recruited two confidants Simon Brown and girlfriend Veronica Pond to assist him in his latest scheme of robbing the Atlantis Credit Union bank was born March 15, 1975 in Breaker Bay, Atlantis to parents Samuel and Edith Smith. Samuel and Edith Smith were a dysfunctional pair that separated continuously. Thaddeus Smith resided along his grandmother due to his status offense of running away escapades at the age of 12 where he would leave his household and not return until days later. Smith’s grandmother received custody. As stated previously Smith parents are inadequate representation of a stable and healthy relationship. In early studies it has been established that delinquents are more likely to come from homes where parents are seperated (Bartol & Bartol, 2014; Ch. 2). Although Edith Smith had concluded that her son was respectful towards family members, Smith was liable to temper tantrums and exhibited violence. Edith Smith related her sons actions as a means to coping with the death of his beloved grandmother. The grandmother was a key component to Thaddeus Smith. The grandmother symbolized a mother figure. Smith was attached to his grandmother, with her death. In the John Bowlby study about the “attachment theory” where the child is more comfortable with the parent beside them, than compared to when the parent leaves for a few minutes they are disoriented and distressed. In the Bowlby study the parents come back, but for Smith his grandmother can’t ever come back. Thaddeus parent neglected their son by being detached and unengaged in their son’s life, the first signs of his change in demeanor the parents did not examine it further or contact psychologists, therapists, counselors at his school that could aide Thaddeus with his grievance.
