When teachers select textbooks for their classes, it is crucial to select the textbooks in which the textual materials meets the needs and interests of students. As a future educator, it is my job to evaluate textbooks and know how to use them. When choosing a textbook, I should remember the real audience, the students. I want a book that students can feel comfortable with, engage in, and can understand. If I don't understand the vocabulary or concepts, my students may not fully comprehend the material. Many textbooks are misused and it is important to know how to use and evaluate a textbook. When evaluating a textbook one should know how and why textbooks are generally hard to read for students. This allows the students to know what to expect from the class and textbook. The beginning of the textbook has a scavenger hunt (Spielvogel, 2006, p.NY55.). The purpose of this scavenger hunt is to teach students through a game, how to use and navigate through the textbook. There is also a section in the beginning of the book titled “Previewing Your Textbook”. This teaches students how the units and chapters are organized. It also specifies the tools it gives throughout the readings (Spielvogel, 2006, p.NY50.). This textbook is a wonderful resource to have. There are many good features and tools to help the students. This textbook has many beneficial features, however a lot of these good features are invisible to students. I will have to teach my students to recognize key features, how to use, and navigate through the text. The textbook does contain a lot of information. I would not teach all of the information and use the textbook as a resource. I can modify, change, eliminate, or add to the material in this textbook. I could also supplement the textbook with lots of outside
