TMJ, also known as the Temporomandibular Joint, is the joint between your skull and your jaw. This joint is very important to the jaw because it helps the jaw to move properly. This is considered both a joint disorder and a muscle disorder. It’s considered a muscle disorder due to the pain people get moving their jaw. People who have this syndrome may have instances where their jaw cracks or they have moments where they lose the ability to move it. People know a lot about TMJ syndrome, but have yet to clarify the specific reason people may get this muscle disorder. Although they don’t know everything thing about the causes, the possible factors that may contribute vary from stress to chewing gum on a regular basis. There is a TMJ Physician, a regular Physician who knows a lot about jaw disorders, and an Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon. While they are examining you, they are paying close attention to your ability to move your jaw in certain directions, muscle tension, and the length to determine the alignment. They also recommend you get a CT scan, X-Rays, or an MRI. If you don’t pass the test and you problem involves the opening tissue, they can determine it is one of four things, including TMJ muscle and joint disorder. To avoid getting TMJ disorder, we can make a few changes throughout our daily lifestyles. We can cut down how many times we eat tough foods by replacing them with softer choices. Secondly, we must try to stay away from chewing gum. We can also take our posture in everyday sitting into careful consideration. Lastly, we can wear protective mouth guards if you find yourself accidentally clenching. All these steps we can take to prevent getting this disorder are fairly easy, if we can maintain a better focus on how our daily habits can be crucial to our
