Sports teach teens teamwork, self-control, and discipline. Jobs can take up alot of a teen's free-time. Teens have higher self-esteem when involved in sports activities. Extracurricular activities are proven to improve academic success. Although sports and a job take up alot of free-time, they provide traits that are beneficial to the future, they keep teens out of trouble, and they even improve academic success. According to the article, “Positive Effects of Extracurricular Activities on Students,” by cod.edu, students that participate in extracurricular activities have reduced behavioral problems (Massoni). A person’s behavior is what pushes the decisions they make. With reduced behavior problems, the person is less likely to make poor decisions therefore decreasing his chances of getting in trouble. In the article, “Does Participation in Sports Keep Teens Out of Trouble?,” it says that teens in sports are less likely to get involved with drugs.
