While technology has been advancing, new devices and programs have been created to promote and track physical activity. These devices and programs are now being incorporated into Physical Education classrooms all over the world. While there are many benefits to using these new technological devices and incorporating technology into PE classrooms, there are many professionals in this area that do believe that technology will not be beneficial in Physical Education. In an article titled Technology in PE; Yea or Nay?, Author Amanda Stanec, founder of MoveLiveLearn, discusses the issues she sees in incorporating technology into Physical Education. One way Stanec establishes her credibility is by talking about how she was “working on” her Phd at “the University of Virginia” (Stanec). Throughout the article, Stanec also references her twitter and her twitter followers she has. Her talking about her twitter, which has around nine thousand followers, helps establish to readers that she has a big amount of people who are backing her information and also support and believe in her research. Stanec not only mentions her own accomplishments and establishes her credibility, she also uses some of her colleagues accomplishments to support her credibility. Throughout the article, the author talks about some of her colleagues including Dr. Ash Casey, who is from Loughborough University and their own work on the subject. Mentoning her PhD work and her twitter following, while incorporating her colleagues accomplishments into her article as well helps establish Stanec's credibility in the …show more content…

She then goes on to give her two main problems she has with technology in PE. Her two points were “We don’t always need technology in physical education” and “Physical education should also teach students the importance of unplugging and connecting with others, as well as nature” (Stanec). She then goes on to talk about ways PE teachers can be taught in different ways and how they can do their own research to see if technology in a PE classroom is actually effective. She does this by talking about Systematic observation. Stanec describes systematic observation as being “a way to objectively gather data about your teaching environment, interactions with students, and students’ physical activity behaviors” (Stanec). Stanec claims that you can use systematic observation in basically any classroom setting, but does not give direct examples of times she had used systematic observation to observe technology usage in a PE classroom. She does pose valid questions about technology in a PE classroom like “How much time is lost from that class? Are they necessary?”
