It’s extremely ludicrous going out in public and counting endless amount of teenagers and young adults being chained to their cellular devices rather than facing whom they are hanging out with. Technology appears to grow and expand world widely making it difficult for people to not notice the impact it’s building on their daily lives. Many people do not realize that technology ruins relationships with others and a person’s range of abilities and skills. Due to technology, social skills continue to vanish; it eliminates literacy skills, physical engagement, and non-technological resources. Literacy skills are needed to get around in our society by reading and writing. However, with technology promoting social media, people lose memory on proper ways to construct sentences and read, due to shortened comments and emojis. Social engagement is great when people are distanced from each other and are in need of communication, whereas it’s not great to engage socially because it’s quicker through technology. People lose the precious value of being able to physically engage with family and friends because technology decides to make it better to engage using emojis. It’s very saddening to eliminate the skill a person has of being able to engage physically because if technology was to ever crash down, awkwardness and shyness would occur resulting in no engagement at all. It’s great having technical resources as well as having the ability to find resources from printed books and engagement, but with technology expanding, people refuse to use their skills of problem solving. Technology seems to eliminate the skills people have been practicing to excel at a young age, which people should continue to let them run. The way by doing that is people limit technology. It can be very beneficial to our society and our skills if it’s done. Literacy skills can become regained if people decide to purchase journals to write daily thoughts and accomplishments. After writing complete sentences on the journals, people will see improvements which will allow for them to be prepared for the real world and society. Physical engagement can also improve relationships, build better business, and make teamwork flow at a better rate if technology is ignored. Because we are connected with so many people, we don’t realize that something is missing in our lives and that is solitude. In my experience, even if we get few minutes to be alone, we spend that looking at our phones and laptops. For example, in school if we are waiting outside of class for teacher to come, everyone is looking at their phones, never talking to each other or sharing knowledgeable things with each other. Not only that even if we have breaks in between the class, students just take out their phone and start staring at it till the break ends. While hanging out with friends, we spend most of time on our phones. I remember, once I lost my phone and I was feeling completely discombobulated. Michelle also became aware that over forty percent of people were suffering from anxiety when they were separated from the phones. This clearly shows that we are connected to the technology that we use, but we are also suffering from the use of technology. We spend more than half of our entire day using some sort of technology, whether that is a computer, phone, television, or radio. Technology is becoming a prevalent part of our lives, and we cannot live without it. Technology has become our family, and part of us.
At least 40 million American adults need stronger literacy skills to take advantage of more lifelong learning opportunities (Knowles 12). Low literacy limits life chances, regardless of how it is defined or measured. According to The Random House Dictionary literacy is defined as “the quality or state of being literate, esp. the ability to read and write.” Another breakdown of the word, from the same source is “possession of education.” Basic skills and literacy abilities are widely viewed as necessities for lifelong learning and the development of success among individuals, families, communities, and even nations. Better knowledge about literacy is an essential condition for improving it. Helping children improve their literacy skills can help them develop the capacity for lifelong learning, keep pace with changing educational expectations and rapid technological change, and achieve their life goals. Today in society there are many adults with poor literacy skills who lack the foundation they need to find and keep decent jobs, to support their children’s education and help them mold a literate future. I have taken one small step towards this problem by tutoring at two schools. The more time people put towards helping the youth of America is the more literate our population can become. Every small action can help, even if it is just tutoring at local middle and junior high schools.

Little did people know that technology can impact the way humans interact with each other. While listening to music and playing games on their mobile devices, how many people actually get to know one another while standing right next to each other? A small ride on a metro or bus ride will show you just how little interaction goes on in a humans life do to the amount of use on their mobile devices. The role technology plays in socializing has a great impact on people’s interaction. People can be standing right next to each other with out saying one word to one another. While waiting for the next class to start or even during the class, people tune out the rest of the world and this can lead up to social isolation. Technology has had a bad impact on the way humans socialize because it causes people to be less interactive. Social isolation is a health condition that can become very severe and lead up to depression, anxiety, despair and many other things. Social isolation can be avoided if technology is limited to use at only appropriate times as when bored, alone or incase of an emergency you would use cell phones.

Some people think that technology distances people from real conversation with others. This will be a problem for some people where they might have a speech or presentation to do in front of people. It is important to develop social skills for the workplace and school to survive the work world. The internet has separated people from interaction with others and creates a substitute for conversation. This makes it difficult for people to have face to face interactions with new people. Technology brings people closer together and at the same time pushes them away.

Technology is hindering today’s youth and their ability to socialize is affecting their capacity to read, write, and communicate. Today’s youth depend on careful considerations for the implementation of technology. Our youth do not have the capability to convey their emotions through the use of technology, understand sadness, happiness or joy through simple text or emails. Communicating through the use of text, chat, and social network sites is lost using abbreviations and slang, inhibiting the use of the Standard English language.
Today technology either completely replaces or has become a component of many traditional social interactions. Think about the ways you personally communicate with friends and family today, and compare it with how people communicated with one another 50 years ago. No longer does one have to verbally speak with a friend or family member from a landline telephone, go to the person’s home, or send a letter in the mail to communicate. Some people even use technology to communicate within the same household, or even in the same room. While spending time at a friend’s home just last year, I experienced this firsthand. Upon becoming curious as to what her mother would be cooking for dinner that night, my friend, instead of walking to a neighboring room in the house where her mother was, pulled out her phone and sent her mother a text message. I was surprised at her action and questioned her. I was then informed that this was a common occurrence in her home, as well as in some of the homes of her other friends and family members. The use of cellphones in a public place has ruined the social aspect of leaving home and adventuring out into the public. “A train station is no longer a communal space, but a place of social collection: tethered selves come together, but do not speak to each other. Each person at the station is more likely to be having an encounter with someone miles away than the person in the next chair” (Turkle 122). People want the privacy of home, in public spaces. When venturing out into the public men and women alike will use his or her phone has a way to avoid talking to strangers “Indeed, the presence of our tethering media [signals] that we do not want to be disturbed by conventional sociality with physically proximate individuals” (Turkle 122).
... It's extremely sad how technology demolished any sense of human interaction. About 10 years ago, we didn’t have access to social networks or all of the internet that currently serves youngsters. Back in the day, if you wanted to meet new people you had to go to school or to parks to find people your age who could be possible friends.
