When things go south in the hospital that is where you can see a true team play out. There is always a clear goal, although sometimes the goal is changed during the process. It is always clearly announced when this happens. Communication although it can be very difficult is achieve. There may be a doctor giving orders, but there is an incredible thing that happens in an unsuccessful code. There is the difficult point that happens of when do you stop? Has something been missed or forgotten something that should have been tried? There is respect for all team members. They can clearly communicate without feeling persecution. This is the method to use if you want your business to be successful. This is the model we use to save people’s lives. This is the model used within the hospital about building relationships, teamwork, and success to help our patient have the best outcomes possible. As a hospital we are constantly collaborating with each other to achieve the best outcome. We trust each other enough to have healthy conflict. I have learned that I truly enjoy being part of a team. Even when the team is not successful it is still an incredible feeling to be part of such an incredible group of people. I think it is important to ask everyone if they need help and if they are doing ok. I trust them to help me if I need help, and they do. I enjoy the communication that comes with collaboration with all different fields of healthcare form the doctor, to the pharmacist, to the housekeeping. I enjoy being part of a business that has achieved organizational effectiveness. I enjoy being part of the University of Iowa Hospital. It is where I truly have grown up (I started at 16 as a housekeeper). I will continue to work on my relationships within the organization.
