“My body is my journal, and my tattoos are my story.”-Johnny Depp. When people want to get tattoos they have to make sure they know what they are getting into so they will not regret their ink in the future. Tattoos are an amazing way to express art through a person’s body. Meaning should be important to the client with their tattoos. There is a lot to take into consideration when getting a tattoo though such as the artist and their studio, designs, and the placement. The first thing someone should look into is the artist and their studio. The client has to take into consideration the rating and experience before getting their tattoo. Proper tools are debatable as to being one of the most important subjects in the procedure. What the tattoo artist should or will most likely have are tattoo tubes, ink, aftercare, anesthetic and numbing options, cases/containers, machines and coils, and needles, etc. These tools should be unopened and opened and sterilized directly in front of the client. There are multiple steps during the tattoo procedure, first, the client will need to identify themselves and fill out paperwork, if the client is underage then a parent must sign a consent form. Second, the artist will start the initial work of the tattooing, then will finalize the stencil of the design. Before the artist begins, they will place petroleum jelly, needles, a tattoo machine, ink caps, antibacterial soap, and a disposable razor in front of their client. They will then go onto disinfecting the chosen area, transfer the stencil onto the skin, and will fill ink caps with the colors the client picked if they picked a color besides black. The artist will then open up a new, sterile, single-tipped needle in front of their client with gloves on, they will place the needle inside the machine, put petroleum jelly over the skin and turn the machine on. The outline of the design will be traced while the artist will wipe the area worked on, if the client wants coloring and/or shading then the needle will need to be changed. When the artist feels that it is done they will show their client, if the client is happy then the tattoo artist will wipe the area away with soapy water and apply ointment, bandage the area, and finally give you very important instructions to follow. The client must be responsible and follow the directions given to make their healing process easier and their tattoo turn out as best as
