The Taming of the Shrew is a play Written by William Shakespeare between 1590 & 1592 But was Published in 1980. The play is based around Katerina the eldest daughter and Bianca the youngest, Lucentio a scholar, Petruchio Katerina’s husband and Katerina’s many suitors before Petruchio. Before Bianca is allowed near any boys Katerina must be married. 10 things I hate about you was adapted from Taming of the Shrew. The movie was in the same category as Taming of the shrew meaning that they used William Shakespeare’s script but Kristen Smith and Karen McCullah edited it to make it more modern. In both the play and the movie there are two sisters Katerina and Bianca, both films share the same challenge, that is Bianca can’t date until her older sister gets married of has a boyfriend. Bianca struggles to get through high school in the film because she must say no to every boy that takes interest in her. Kat on the other side is a firm believer that you need to do what you think is right and not live up to other people’s expectations “why should I live up to other people’s expectations instead of my own”. With Kats beliefs Bianca can’t, have the freedom to do what she wants to do and is trapped by Kats decisions. Cameron sees Bianca on his first day at the new school and is determined to win her over. When he finds out that she likes joey he plans to kill two birds with one stone. He got joey to pay Patrick to win over Katerina and then Bianca would be free for Cameron to claim her. At bogies “party” joey turns his back on Bianca and Bianca hurts Cameron but then she asks Cameron to give her a lift home because joey left her. Joey in the play wasn’t one person like he is in the movie he was two people Gremio and Hortensio. Cameron had the same goal in the play as the movie. In the play, he was known as Lucentio and Bianca’s dad was Walter in the movie and Baptista in the play. A quote that Kat stated in the play was the “there are small choices from rotten
Despite the gap between the two films they both have very similar features and same intensions. Even though they are similar they also have their differences. The play was set in Padua, Italy, the film was shot at stadium High School in Tacoma, Seattle. The play has different characters and each of those characters have a different personality in the play. Kat in the play is rude, in the film she is rude but not as much as the play. Bianca in the play is alone and wanting to find someone, in the movie she is also alone but she try’s a lot harder than Bianca in the play. Gremio and Hortensio in the play are two different characters where is in the play they are joey meaning they are just one
