I Skyler Simpson am writing this document to express my anger about super test days.I feel like these days should be abolished.As it makes students dread going to school in the morning.We learn nothing and sit in one spot for hours. On super test days we learn almost nothing during periods.These periods could be used for teaching instead of silent testing.Each year schools run further and further into the summer. They say they need so many hours of teaching, while they waste full days on scantrons. First of all, having longer passing periods would help our teachers. Teachers are always in a rush to get stuff done for the next class. Have you ever began a book only to find that after a few chapters into it a more important task comes up that must be given attention to and you don’t make it back to the book for some time. The ensuing matter has been taken care of and now it is time to finish that novel that thought was so great you just couldn’t put it down but, where did you exactly leave off and what character are doing what now? The four day school week is far superior to the five day school week because it gives students and teachers an extra day to do whatever they want. The traditional School schedule is set up so students go to school for 9 months and then have a 3-month summer Vacation. This system dates back to a time when most people's lively hood was farming; therefore, the educational schedule was built around the times of harvest and planting. But in modern day, with so little farmers this schedule is severely out dated. The long break in the summer encourages students to forget knowledge that they learned that previous year, forcing teachers to review information for 4-6 weeks, time that could be well used teaching students new and enriching things. This schedule also isn't very cost effective, for three months schools stand empty and unused, which is ridicules due to how over crowded the educational system is. Does it really make sense to use an outdated schedule when with every other aspect of our lives we want the newest and the best?
There are many opinions and studies about reforming school days. Some people are concerned that longer school days would bring more difficulties. However, there are numerous studies and practical examples that prove that we improve students’ performance by lengthening school days. Finally, the economy and our society will benefit from expanding school days.
They should be able to have enough time in the afternoon to distract themselves with other healthy activities which ensure the development of new skills and is also relaxing. Students who like to read or do their homework in the library or just spend time in any other public place will be affected since they will have less time in them because of later release times.
