In Ralph Hancock’s article “Aren’t we all Feminists”, he applies many points that were alarming to different types of feminist perspectives. Firstly, he talks about the tension between the older generation of feminist and the 21st century feminist. Younger feminist believe that women are entitled to certain rights. They believe that women “have it all” from reproductive rights to education. They believe that these privileges are basic rights that are common sense. It is common sense for women to have these rights, but they fail to realize the hardship that went into women getting these rights. The younger generation of feminist do not see that there are still issues about feminism that need to be addressed. I agree that younger feminist are more relaxed and uneducated on feminist. Believing that women can “have it all” is not possible. They aspire to have a perfect marriage, ideal children, and dream job with an immense salary. I personally do not believe in what Hancock is saying, and it is completely discouraging to young women that want to have children and a career. It gives women the impression that to have children they must sacrifice their independence. They must conform to depending on their husband and be the stay at home soccer mom. Although it is hard for anyone to have the perfect life, it is something that can be achievable, and women do not have to make a choice between womanhood, motherhood, and a career.
While everyone does agree with women’s equality, not everyone agrees on how to achieve it. There is a philosophical problem that by letting each woman, or man define what feminism is because it covers up the harder questions. Every society reasons out what is the same and what is different about its men and women. The reasons justify if women are getting equal representatives and support throughout the
