As many envision sub Saharan Africa as a densely overgrown jungle with crazy deadly animals out the get you, they could not be any more wrong. Sub Saharan Africa is a diversely population region with many different landscapes, climates, and cultures.
A common myth most people believe about Africa is that is one giant rain forest with monkeys and giant spiders. In fact, Africa is a lot more diverse than people imagine. A notion people tend to have is that Africa is hot year round and that it never rains. It actually has a broad array of climates ranging from snow storms in the mountains to extreme blistering heats in the deserts. One might never put the words snow and Africa together in the same sentence but a high enough elevations, it can actually get cold enough to snow. While there is a giant rainforest, it only covers a small portion of sub-Saharan Africa. The rest is made up of vast green lands, hot and dry, arid desert, and less dense tropical rain forest. Surprisingly enough, major cities in Africa are considered safer to walk down the street late at night than it is in most American cities. While people believe it is all dangerous and everybody carries a gun, African people tend to be some of the nicest, most inviting people. Especially if you are American. African people give show so much hospitality and treat all guests with respect and kindness. While violence certainly is the case in certain countries or cases, it is mainly confined to smaller, specific regions. Personal crime is not very common. This is not to say that all countries are peaceful, but all countries differ from country to country and have their own politics and are at different levels of
