According to Smith (2008) the key concern in research relating to training, is developing an understanding of motivation. Most research on student motivation adheres to classroom and employment related motivational drives. Therefore, this project researches student motivation in relation to physical activity i.e. training.
There are obvious benefits of training and leading an active healthy lifestyle, with this in mind, BUCS (British University and Colleges Sport) (2014), state that training within students is on the increase with one in four students at university now taking part in physical activity. Sport England (2014) concur with this by stating that 36% of the UK student population are physically active, contrasting to just 21% of the public.
Students that do participate in physical activity throughout university enable themselves to enhance many aspects of their lives according to Smith (2008). Some of these benefits include dealing with stress management, body image and many intrinsic benefits such as accomplishment and relationships (Banta, 1991). Motivational factors init...
