Black women have been the support system to this country since the early days of slavery. African American women have cleaned, cooked and taken care of kids that was not theirs while suffering abuse at the hands of somebody else. Black women continued to do this until they were broken free but that still didn’t stop America from continuing to break black women down even more. African American women helped with the civil rights movement and lead the black panther movement to support children and black rights. Black women have not been recognized for all the hard work they have done. The stereotype that all black women are on welfare is not true. It’s proven that black women are in college more than black men. Another stereotype id the black angry stereotype. It’s a stereotype that all black women are angry and bitter. It degrades the black women that are trying to lift their selves up. But the stereotype that all black women are angry has crawled its way up to movies and television for people’s pleasure. There is at least one person that plays the black bitter angry stereotype on television. “Although this image of African American women is accepted, little empirical research on African American women’s actual experience of anger exists, and no empirical evidence exists that supports that African American woman generally experiences more anger than other ethnic groups experience.” (Walley-Jean, 69) This example explains how the stereotype is accepted but little to none research was done to prove if African American women experience anger more than the other ethnic groups. There are some other stereotypes that exist like black women being men crazy or their standards being too high. People often think that black women have daddy issues which most are in loving homes with a loving mother and father or just a loving mom/dad.
