I want to be a part of this group so I can improve my writing by learning different writing genres and techniques. This new acquired knowledge will help me now as well as in the future. I can use it now to help students improve their writing as a tutor. It will also help me in the future when I need to write college essays or job applications. I enjoy video editing and my expertise will help and update the Writing Center YouTube page. I can make the videos more engaging and entertaining while still keeping it informative and professional. The strategies that I will use in my final draft are making sure my writing is in the third person, double check my in-text citing format as well as double check the wording to make sure I am using the correct words and grammar. I really appreciate the instructor’s feedback from this essay and the reflection. This unit has enabled me to become better acquainted with my writing processes. I now understand that the majority of my writing I use the prewriting strategy of brainstorming to varying degrees depending on what my writing genre is. When my genre is an email at work I compose the email by brainstorming the subject in my head and then typing my ideas directly in the body of the email. I then revise those ideas, usually multiple times, to make sure that my message is easily read and understandable. In essence, I go from my informal brainstorming draft to final draft with no intervening steps. In order to produce a piece of well-rounded writing, it is a known fact that every author must be able to assemble, grease, and apply the many moving pieces of literacy throughout his work. These tasks, while being vital, do not at all necessitate that a particular technique or procedure be followed for their completion. Thankfully, writers are free to use their own methods to invent, revise, and discover. Speaking for myself, I certainly have my own writing method.
In this paper, I am to write about my strengths and weaknesses in writing. This is not an easy task for me because I have never considered myself a writer. Reading other peoples thoughts are activities that are more my speed. I simply have trouble putting my thoughts into writing. We each come from a distinct background and have had many different life experiences; sharing our professional goals on learning allows us to share where we come from with each other and what we wish to become, which in turn enables us to realize that where there are multiple experiences, there are multiple points of view, and multiple destination. At the same time, we are deeply influenced by our cultural heritage and the environment that surrounds us, which also directs our path; we need to connect ourselves with the world around us in order to understand our place in that world, to learn how and what we can offer to help others, and to learn that we are not alone.
Foundations of Writing is said to be one of, if not the most, difficult classes offered in the high school. I have thought about why I am taking the class multiple times. I have quite a few struggles when it comes to writing but I also have many strengths. I believe my writing skills can be improved and I can grow tremendously as a writer by taking this class. Good writing is something that is achieved by working hard and practicing a lot.
When teaching writing, I will set my end goals for instruction under two categories: academic goals and personal goals. First of all, I believe that there should be visible growth in the academic area students are being instructed in. Notice that I said I want to see visible growth; I did not assign a letter grade that I thought would be appropriate for students to meet. Not every student is going to come into the classroom at the same level, so my end goal of writing instruction would be to see some sort of positive growth in my students. Developing and practicing effective personal writing skills is crucial for recording individual expression and communication, logging personal experiences and preserving a culture’s civilization (Powell, Harms and Barry, 2006). Successful Americans in all walks of life depend on producing clear oral and written communication. A survey of one hundred and twenty major American corporations (Powell, Harms and Barry, 2006) finds that approximately eight million employees must demonstrate strong writing skills for employee retention and promotion. Two-thirds of salaried employees in large American companies have some writing responsibility; effective communications via e-mail and PowerPoint are often job requirements (Needles & Knapp, 2004).
What is my personal purpose? Is a question that I have never thought to ask myself until recently. Then when I started learning more about a personal purpose I started wondering if I have one and what it was. I never thought of myself has having a real purpose until a watched an interview Will Smith had did and he had said “When your life means something to someone other than yourself than you have a purpose.” That is when I realized that I have a purpose. My purpose is that I am the hug that let others know it is going to be ok. My personal goals is to be genuinely happy with myself and life and to make my parents proud, my career goal is to own my own business and being successful at doing so, finally, my educational goal is to get my bachelors degree and grauate with honors and even moving on to getting my masters. Having goals is important to me because I know that while I am in the process of accomplishing them I will have something great to look forward to in the end.

My top personal goal is to be able to be successful. Along with that, I want to be able to form relationships and bonds that last a lifetime with genuine people who have my best interest at heart.
