Change can have many meanings. It is going from “same” to “different”. Change can be defined as an event that occurs when something passes from one state or phase to another and as a process of transition. The forces of change affect attitudes, beliefs and behavior. Not a single moment goes by when everything in our lives will remain the same. When you become adjusted to your surroundings, something changes again. Changes can affect both individuals and groups. Throughout our lives we go through many changes, especially in adolescence.
This is shown in the song Graduation by Vitamin C. Graduation is about the change of leaving high school and moving on to adulthood. It shows the many questions young people have about leaving school, and uncertainty of the future. At the same time, it shows the constant of friendship that people can rely on, when many other things in their life are changing.
Some people who have dealt with changes in their lives have become inspirational to others because of their courage, determination and optimism. Examples of such people are the Biggest Loser contestants and also Bethany Hamilton.
The television program the Biggest Loser shows people changing their lives physically and emotionally through diet and exercise. People watching the show could relate to these people, which could give them inspiration and motivation to make changes of their own.
Bethany Hamilton is an example of dealing with change in an optimistic way. In October 2003, Bethany was attacked by a shark while out surfing in Tunnels beach, Hawaii. Without warning, a Tiger shark attacked her surfboard, dragging her back and forth and then disappearing into the ocean. Bethany was able to compose herself to use her right arm to swim back to the shore. She was later taken to hospital with severe injuries, where her left arm was amputated. She came through her recovery with things that were important to her, such as her family and her Christian faith. Despite the trauma of the incident, Hamilton was determined to return to surfing. Just 10 weeks after the accident, she returned to the ocean and went surfing again. She adjusted to the change by using a custom made surfboard and changing her surfing style. Bethany taught herself to surf with only one arm and she also began surfing competitively in competitions again. Hamilton claims that the loss of her arm was a blessing in disguise.
Life is constantly changing, like clouds in the sky; always shifting and turning. People never really know which way life will turn next, bringing them fortune or failure. When you look at how things change it is best to compare it to something that you can relate it to. The changeable nature of life can be related to the novel 'The Bean Trees.' This is a book written almost entirely on dealing with changes in the characters lives.
To regard the importance of the bigger picture, he maintains parallel structure and utilizes the repetition of words in the body of the speech. “The fulfilling life, the distinctive life, the relevant life” occurs when one seizes the day—when one finds the joys in life by realizing “you are not special”. The pauses and short sentences also adds to the conversational aspect and pace of the commencement piece. To continue, he notes how in this moment of time, every single one of them is dressed “exactly the same” and their diplomas are “exactly the same”. The unification of these prospective seniors further augments the message of settling. McCullogh further critiques the phrases that defy logic. High school students have perceived that “good is no longer good enough, where a B is the new C”. The goal into doing one’s best has been shaped into doing the capabilities of another, in which McCullogh responds metaphorically to only focus on the betterment of the self: “climb [the mountain] so you can see the world, not so the world can see you”. All of these seniors have fallen into the preconceived mindset of superiority, unifying them together but it is their personal capabilities that distinguishes one from another, successes from failures. The support and inspiration he is aiming for is clearly portrayed in proposing to the students to, “[d]ream big. Work hard. Think for yourself”. He inspires them to experience life instead of accomplish
The term change means to become different. People change throughout their life based on their personal actions, decisions, and experiences. This applies to characters in books as well. In the novel The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin, Angela Wexler, Grace Wexler, and Sydelle Pulaski are shown to have changed greatly.
From our first breath to our last, every person on Earth is in a perpetual state of change. Some of this change is physical, some of it is mental, and all of it is important. One of the most obvious instances of human change is seen throughout adolescence. During this time, both our bodies and our minds change very rapidly, nearly transforming us into completely different versions of ourselves. While it is true that this period of the human life does contains the largest amount of both physical and mental change, it should not be thought of as the only time in our life where change is acceptable. At any other time, though, change is usually looked at as negative. In many texts, when an adult changes, they are usually viewed as fickle or even

People say high school is supposed to be the golden years of your life. I don’t know what else in life is to come; however, my philosophy is to live in the moment and make the life you’re living in the present worthwhile into the future, not only for you but for those who surround you. I live my life participating in our community and getting involved in our school. The activities, and the people I’ve formed relationships with, are what have formed me into the person I am today. The person I am today is not perfect, but I have learned from the mistakes I’ve made.
Bethany Meilani Hamilton was born on February 8, 1990. She lives in Kauai, Hawaii with her parents Thomas and Cherilyn, her two brothers Noah and Timothy, and her dog Ginger. Bethany went to a public school until the fourth grade when her mother pulled her out to home school her. Being homeschooled allowed Bethany time to surf as a career, and it let her travel. She had the same work as an average high school student, but home school allowed her to do her assignments on her time. Bethany’s love for surfing began when she was young. She was taught to surf by her parents at the innocent age of four. Her love for the water sport quickly grew into a passion, and eventually a career. A huge part of Bethany is her faith. Bethany and her family go to North Shore Community Church. Bethany took the huge step of accepting Jesus Christ into her heart to be her personal savior at the age of five. Bethany says, “Doing things with my Christian friends is an important part of my life, because it really is encouraging to have others who, like me, want to be close to God” (Soul Surfer). At age eight, Bethany was entered into her first state wide surfing competition, at that competition, she won both the short and long board divisions. Change is a word that I have constantly heard throughout my high school years. It is a transformation through which everyone goes whether it's for the better or for the worse. For me the meaning and value of change has helped me to focus on the goals I have to accomplish. For others, it is simply just a phase we go through. All of us here have been able to learn and develop from our changes to be come a better and successful person.
My whole life, I have been presented to a single element called change. Change occurs in many different forms and is carried out in many different ways. However, just recently, I have come to the realization that change can be the deepest of all subjects. I always assumed that change occured when you moved to a new town or when you lost someone close to you. Those are elements to change, yes, but change doesn't have to occur over a single dramatic event. It can just happen overnight when your brain determines it's time to do something different.

Transition and change often comes in different forms, which can either be joyful, stressful or a combination of both. Sometimes people change their relationships, jobs, where they live, beliefs and even their goals in life as a result of change. That said, with transition and change comes a different type of adjustment, roles and responsibilities. As individuals we need to learn to adapt in different situations for change is inevitable. Everything about this world is changing each and every moment. Our relationships change, circumstances change, our feelings change. No one is exactly the same each moment. Everything is changing constantly. Times change and so does people.
Through out life people go through so many hardships. Whether it be good or bad there is always something that comes out of the situation. One of the most exciting but yet scariest events would be graduation. For a lot of people, graduating from high school is a goal. It takes a lot of time and effort to achieve that goal. In the long run, it opens a lot of opportunities for people to succeed. Graduation is the end of high school, and the beginning to life.
Graduation: the last day that I would unwillingly set foot on the fields of Horizon High School. I could feel my heart beating out of my chest, and tried so hard to keep my feet moving one after the other in order to maintain my perfect stature. After the two hour wait of opening speeches, class songs, and the calling off of the five hundred plus names that were in front of me, it was finally my turn. As my row stood up and we walked towards the stage it had set in at last, this is it, I am done. My high school career ended on that night, but it didn’t close the book that is my life, it only started a new chapter, and with it came a whole slue of uncertainties.
