By: Kiran. Subramanian Imagine waking up in the morning groggy because you have been hearing thunder all through the night. You decided to go make yourself some breakfast. When you get down, you see your kitchen filled with water up to your waist. This is how people felt in New Orleans, Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina hit. Today I will talk to you about the general hurricane characteristics, Information about Hurricane Katrina, and what you should do if you know a hurricane is coming.

Board up windows that way you will not be stepping on glass when you wake up. Some things people have learned from hurricane Katrina is that make sure you're in a safe place when a hurricane happens. Also,(this is kind of a basic one) if there is a mandatory evacuation, then evacuate! FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) was trying to help people by sending in helicopters to rescue people and helicopters to drop sandbags to stop more flood water from entering the city of New Orleans. Many residents of the area that Hurricane Katrina struck were angry at FEMA from responding slowly to the needs of people.
