Should children (under 15) have social media accounts?
Social media is a communications networking, which allows users to create online profiles to share information, and other content such as sharing photo 's and video 's. Social media is becoming an important part of people 's day to day life, it gives the opportunity for consumers to pass time, escape reality, or learn information about others. Businesses also use social media, as a way to promote brands and connect with customers. Some of the most popular social networking sites are Facebook, Twitter, SnapChat, and Instagram. Each week social media is updating and changing to improve the experience for consumers. Facebook 's biggest consumers are youths (12-17), they play an enormous role in Facebook 's growth. Young teens are extremely active users, it 's a way for teens to escape reality, make friends, and keep up with trends. As youths continue to use social media it becomes a challenge for parents to stay connected with their children. As a parent, it can be hard to keep up with the many changes social media undergoes for example, updates to the news feed keeping consumers updated with news around the world. Even though it can be challenging, parents need to have insight on the world their child visits on a daily basis. Today 's teen, is the first generation to grow up with instant communication, and parents must keep an eye on their children and have greater knowledge of the social networking websites that their child is registered with. When children login to Facebook, there is a greater chance of them being exposed to contents, that may not be approved by parents such as violence. Excessive violence is a behavior involving physical force intended to hurt and damage someone or something. Violence is seen all over Facebook, whether it 's fights that are being posted by others or violent comments being posted online. When children log on to Facebook, there are many things that are seen on their timeline such as videos containing people fighting. There are generous amounts of Facebook pages that are violent related, such as World Star Hip-Hop. World Star Hip-Hop is a video blog, where users can share videos to the page. Most of the content on the page are videos based upon fights, that may potentially end up on your child 's Facebook page by either them viewing the content or through friends. When children are exposed to this kind of content, it could affect them in a negative way.
