How Do Fairy Tales Possess A Timeless Quality Before landing on the big screen or on printed pages, most fairytales were born through folklore passed down by generations of storytellers. Why did fairy tales stick around for so long? Take for example, Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs. The Grimm Brothers first published it in 1812, but it wasn't until much later that it was adapted into the Disney story known today. This classic story is saturated with many Elements of Fantasy. For instance, the recognizable setting of a kingdom owned by royalty, and the common phrases: "Once upon a time” in the beginning and "They Lived Happily Ever After” at the end. Some authors are able to tap into these emotions and give readers what they want to hear. Snow white's story of true love and good vs. evil reinforces these same concepts, thus proving it to be a timeless classic. Fairy tales can give us a glimpse into an ideal world. The use of magic, and the idea of royalty is an element that appeals to all ages. Similar to Snow White, every young girl hopes to find true love. Snow White's perfect husband and royal background is something that many little girls can idolize. Furthermore, Snow White’s loyal companions, the seven dwarfs, all represent people we have in our lives or wish to have. Everyone can think of a “sleepy" or “grumpy" dwarf that’s personified in his or her life. Additionally, the concept of good over evil is a historic theme in past and present culture. This can be seen in highly acclaimed literature such as Shakespeare's Macbeth or a child's Batman comic book. Evil is an omnipresent force and given a physical form through Snow White’s stepmother.
