Siri is an intelligent personal assistant and knowledge navigator which works as an application for Apple Inc.'s iOS. The application uses a natural language user interface to answer questions, make recommendations, and perform actions by delegating requests to a set of Web services. Apple claims that the software adapts to the user's individual preferences over time and personalizes results. The name Siri is Norwegian, which conveys the meaning of "beautiful woman who leads you to victory" and comes from the intended name for the original developer's first child. Siri voice recognition software, did not originate with Apple, Siri was originally introduced by Apple as an iPhone application available in the Apple shop in 2008. The company Siri Incorporated was then acquired by Apple on April 28, 2010 for reportedly a little over $200 million. Apple re-launched the Siri application as an integral part of the iPhone 4S and iOS5 on October 4, 2011 and at the same time removed Siri from Apple's application store. Originally, Siri was to be developed for the BlackBerry and Android-powered phones as well. However, plans for the support of any non-Apple platforms were cancelled after Apple's purchase, a savvy business decision by Apple and a testament to just how good a product Siri is. Compared to Siri, developments in voice recognition software made by Apple pre-Siri were just nowhere near as good. According to Apple, Siri can do the following tasks: use user’s voice to send messages, schedule meetings, place phone calls, make recommendations, answer questions, understands your natural speech and asks you questions if it needs more information to complete a task, and perform actions by delegating requests to a set of web services, and m... ... middle of paper ... ... supplement the limitations of our minds and free us from mundane and tedious tasks. Siri's backers know Apple's version of the assistant has not yet lived up to its potential. But as new waves of virtual assistants compete to take on our to-do lists, Apple is under growing pressure to use the technology it already has and turn Siri into the multitasking, proactive helper it once was. Siri's history suggests a fantastical future of virtual assistants is coming; where we now see Siri as a footnote to the iPhone's legacy, someday soon the iPhone may be remembered as a footnote to Siri. I hope Siri's new interface fits into iOS 7 better than the previous incarnation did in iOS 6. It literally fades into view on top of what the user look at when the user invokes Siri. I too am looking forward that in the coming time Siri will answer questions faster and more accurately.
