In the common world, newfound love is believed to change people’s lives by giving them a new perspective and new impression of the world but not necessarily in the most positive way. In one of the most beloved works of Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Oberon, the king of the fairies, enrages on prideful fairy queen Titania for her refusal of giving up an Indian boy to Oberon. On the other hand, in Hitchcock’s movie Vertigo, Scottie is victimized for a cunning murder plan of Elster, Scottie’s old friend, for which Scottie’s growing infatuation toward “Elster’s wife,” Madeleine/Judy, circumvents him. In Shakespeare’s play, for feeling pity toward Titania, Oberon undoes the magic potion on Titania, and Titania’s eyes are cleared to see the truth, exclaiming, “How came these things to pass? O, how mine eyes do loath his visage now!” (4.1). Once Titania awakes from both the physical and emotional disturbance caused by the potion, Titania realizes the truth and feels extremely embarrassed by her behavior. Although it is all due to the magic potion, Titania’s embarrassment makes her realize how the irresistible romantic feeling toward the donkey blinded her ability to perceive the truth. Respectively, in the movie Vertigo, Scottie suspects and realizes the truth at the sight of Carlotta’s necklace, for which Scottie confesses “I loved you, Madeleine…Too late... too late... there's no bringing her back” (1:51:20 – 1:51:48). Scottie’s everlasting passion toward Madeleine does not die down by the realization of the truth. By finding out the truth too late to undo, Scottie is upset with frustration of being a fool for not being able to perceive the situation correctly. Although Scottie confesses that he has loved and still loves Madeleine, the newfound love blinded Scottie’s perception too long for him to undo the terrorizing murder plan of Elster. In the end, the truth was eventually revealed once the love cleared away from blinding Titania’s and Scottie’s perception of the world, it was too late to return and fix all the mistakes made and the facts that the characters were deceived by the plans they were unaware of

Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo is a thrilling film filled with mystery and suspense. However, Hitchcock left many unsolved issues at the end of this film. In contrast, when comparing Vertigo to more recent films of similar genre’, mysteries are usually always solved and thoroughly explained by the end of the film. Ironically, Hitchcock’s failure to explain everything to the audience in Vertigo is one of the film’s best attributes. This lack of knowledge allows the viewer to use their own imagination and speculate as to what might or might not have become of certain characters.

As an author of a series of young adult books, Clare wishes to send a message to adolescent readers regarding the destruction that young, passionate love can lead to. When they first see each other on the night of the Capulet party, they quickly fall in love and are soon married by Romeo’s friend and mentor, Friar Lawrence. The affection they feel for one another, being all consuming, often leads them to want to sacrifice everything for each other, including their own lives. Their self-destructive, rushed love ends with their deaths, occurring just a multiple days after they first met. Most of the film is viewed in the 3rd person, except for the reaction shots (point of view shot) which are seen through the eyes of the main character.(1st person) The film has a strong closure and uses continuity editing(180 degree rule). The stylistic (technical) film form of Vertigo makes the film much more enjoyable. The stylistic film form includes camera movements, editing, sound, mise-en-scene and props.

Vertigo and Its Treatment In our everyday lives, we almost take for granted this idea of balance or equilibrium that is maintained within our bodies. In general, no real thought processes are required. It is only when something is disturbed within our balance system that one is able to take notice of changes in the equilibrium. There may be several different factors that cause a disturbance to our bodies.
Shakespeare’s play Twelfth Night revolves around a love triangle that continually makes twists and turns like a rollercoaster, throwing emotions here and there. The characters love each another, but the common love is absent throughout the play. Then, another character enters the scene and not only confuses everyone, bringing with him chaos that presents many different themes throughout the play. Along, with the emotional turmoil, each character has their own issues and difficulties that they must take care of, but that also affect other characters at same time. Richard Henze refers to the play as a “vindication of romance, a depreciation of romance…a ‘subtle portrayal of the psychology of love,’ a play about ‘unrequital in love’…a moral comedy about the surfeiting of the appetite…” (Henze 4) On the other hand, L. G. Salingar questions all of the remarks about Twelfth Night, asking if the remarks about the play are actually true. Shakespeare touches on the theme of love, but emphases the pain and suffering it causes a person, showing a dark and dismal side to a usually happy thought.
