Is the Catholic doctrine and the doctrine of the Reformation similar or different? During the Reformation, the Catholics thought the Protestants were challenging the power of the Catholic Church. To eliminate this challenge, Catholics heavily persecuted the Protestants. There are many differences between both of the doctrines as well as a few similarities. The Catholic doctrine and the doctrine of the Reformation differ in their belief of salvation, their sources of authority, and their method of worship.

The doctrine of salvation varies from religion to religion. Catholicism teaches that there is salvation through faith plus works. In the period of the Reformation, Catholics thought believing in Jesus was not enough to send them to heaven. They thought it was necessary to do good works to be saved. In order to assure salvation and receive money, the Catholic Church sold indulgences, which were “slips of paper that were sold to people by the church that had the power to wipe away your …show more content…

Since the Bible was written in Latin, the worship services of the Catholic church were also in Latin. This made it very difficult for the Catholics to understand and get involved in their worship. Most of the time they did not sing because they did not know what they were saying. Protestant worship services helped people get involved with praising God. People worshiped in the vernacular, the church leader emphasized the sermon, and the people in the church sung hymns.
Today, the Catholic Church and the Protestant Church remain strong. The Catholic Church is still centered around the church and the pope and the Protestant Church is still centered around the Bible. Both religions worship the same God and have the same Bible, but the way in which they practice their faith is different.
