Have you ever wondered how women helped our country? There was and still are women who changed or change the world today. Like Shirley Muldowney, and Rose Will Monroe, or Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony, maybe Hillary Clinton. Some of these women changed little things and some changed big things, but they all made a difference in their own way.
Who is a hero? In contemporary times, usage of the term has become somewhat of a cliché. Over the years, the term “hero” has become representative of a wide variety of individuals, each possessing differing traits. Some of the answers put forth by my colleagues (during our in-class discussion on heroism) as to whom they consider heroes pointed to celebrities, athletes, teachers and family members. Although the occupations differed, each of their heroes bore qualities that my classmates perceived as extraordinary, whether morally or physically. Nonetheless, Webster’s defines “hero” as “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” Thus, it is worth considering that individuals become heroes relative to the situation with which they’re faced.
Anyone can truly be a hero, even in real life. Heroes can be people who simply have an idea and decide to grow onto that idea and have it done. For example, Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi were real life heroes who started out as ordinary people but had a dream and made a huge difference in the end. Nelson Mandela, a Civil Rights activists, once said, “We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference” (Lazaro). Nelson Mandela was trying to say that anybody can make a difference, but it is up to that person or people to make that change. One simple change could cause any simple person to have a major change in lifestyle just because they decided to step up and do something. Furthermore, anyone can be a hero, it doesn’t matter what one’s background is, one can make even the simplest of changes and become a hero to oneself and the people around them.
“If it is deemed necessary that I should forfeit my life for the furtherance of the ends of justice, and mingle my blood further with the blood of my children and with the blood of millions in this slave country whose rights are disregarded by wicked, cruel, and unjust enactments-I submit; so let it be done.” Imagine this man as a person who decided to make a change in the world and fight for what is right. John Brown was one of the major abolitionists and had the audacity to achieve his many accomplishments. This paper will cover his early life, life as an abolitionist, later life with events that lead to his death, his last speech, including how it impacted many others, and how Harriet Tubman and John Brown were alike/not alike.
Both Fredrick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs write narratives about their time being slaves. The narratives show dehumanization through physical and emotional abuse, along with sexual abuse supported with textual evidence. However, Jacobs states "slavery is bad for men, but is for more terrible for women", which I concur with.
Harriet Tubman Who is a great female hero from the 1800s? Who freed herself from slavery? Who freed other people from slavery? Not Wonder Woman, but Harriet Tubman. As you will see Harriet Tubman is a hero as seen through her personal background and lifetime accomplishments.

People can be heros to Dr. King if they believe in themselves. According to Dr.King all heros need to be brave. “...with the noble sense of purpose that enables them to face jeering, and hostile mobs, and with agonizing loneliness that characterizes the life of the pioneer.”(30) In this quote Dr.King explains that a hero faces many obstacles on their journey. But heroes face their journey with courage and bravery. Rosa Parks was a woman that had enough of segregation. “I was forty-two. No,the only tired I was,was tired of giving in…. He asked was I going to stand up. I said No.”(6-7) This quote from Rosa Parks explained that she wasn’t afraid to say no. Dr. King calls Rosa Parks a hero for her courage in the fight against segregation. For Dr.King heroes face their obstacles with confidence and courage.
Everyone (most people have) has someone they consider a hero. Heroes can be anyone with astounding courage and strength. Individuals who choose to risk their own life to increase the happiness and fairness in others’ lives are heroes. A hero is someone who is daring, cunning, and humble. A prime example of a hero is Justin Trudeau since he is a leader who has the people’s best interests at heart, and he combats racism and fights for equality.
Heroes are mostly known to be men. Jesus was a man so was Moses. What about women? Women can be heroes if we put our mind to it. We can be anything we want to be, do what a man can do. We can be leaders, politicians, astronauts, doctors, be in the army and more. Take Susan B. Anthony as an example, she fought for women’s right to vote. Women started fighting for the right to vote. Because that is the only thing men listen to is war. Susan B. Anthony protested, raided places with a whole army of women behind her. She fought for more than 50 years for women. In 1919, they gave women the right to vote. Then in 1920, it was ratified. Harriet Tubman, she was the leader of the Underground Railroad. She lead more than thousands of slaves to freedom. Dorothea Dix, she created a hospital for the mentally handicapped. Abigail Adams, she influenced American politics through letters
In my opinion, I think that Harriet Tubman truly was a hero. She was able to rescue so many people from slavery, Serve in the war, and still even in old age build a home for old and indigent. Harriet Tubman is a great role model. I'm glad i did my report on her.
Harriet Tubman and Abraham Lincoln were both great people and they both did amazing things during their lifespan. Both of these historical cons have their similarities and differences. Like Harriet Tubman was nicknamed “Moses” because she rescued and freed so many slaves. Abraham Lincoln was nicknamed “The Man With Many Faces” because nobody really knew the real Abraham Lincoln, not even his wife knew the real him. Also Harriet Tubman was a woman who freed slaves and took part in The Civil War as a soldier, spy, and nurse. Abraham Lincoln took part as a strategist, but some of the soldiers and military generals disagreed with some of his plans, and at the end of the war he ended slavery by signing a proclamation.
Have you ever heard of a courageous person such as Rosa Parks, the Monuments Men, or women all around the world that won the International Women of Courage Awards? Have you ever wondered what being courageous actually means? There are many heroes in the world some are well known and some are unexpected. But they all fall under the category of being a courageous hero. Some people think being a hero means you have to have superpowers. However, this claim is invalid because Rosa Parks, Monument Men or winners of awards didn’t have super powers and they are still heroes everyday people admire.
You also don’t have to kill anyone, conquer foreign land, or risk your life to be a hero. Anyone who influences anyone else by saving or helping save his or her lives is a hero. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. changed the lives of millions of people by bringing justice to minorities. Mahatma Gandhi, one of the greatest heroes, led a nonviolent revolution to free his country.
