What determines a person’s race? The color of one's skin? Many people debate whether or not Obama or Clinton fills the role of the first black president. How can this debate possibly exist? Race cannot solely exist on the basis of skin color; characteristics play a major role as well. Due to Bill Clinton and Barack Obama's similarities in backgrounds, their accomplishments while in office resemble greatly, yet also differ greatly. Nonetheless, although Clinton's pale skin screams Caucasian, he exhibits far more black characteristics than Obama.
Obama and Clinton hold remarkably similar backgrounds, yet a bit different. Both of the men went to college and became lawyers. Clinton and Obama participate in the Democrat Political Party. Obama lived in Honolulu, Hawaii, for most of his childhood with his mother and alcoholic grandfather, whereas Clinton, also raised by his mother and an alcoholic step-father, lived in …show more content…

Obama and Clinton saw it differently when it came to the idea of “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.” Clinton implemented the Defense of Marriage Act, whereas Obama repealed the act. While Clinton reigned as president, America had the longest peacetime economic expansion in American history. Obama tried to regain this economic expansion with the passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in 2009. In spite of all of Obama’s efforts, America has yet to reach that goal. Clinton and Obama clearly both concerned themselves with healthcare, Obama with ObamaCare and Clinton with Children’s Health Insurance programs. Foreign policies of the presidents involved the strikes against terrorists and the increasing number of troops deployed at a time.
