Changes Through Community Rumors are common in high school, but we are not the only ones who face such problems on a daily basis. Silas Marner was looked at as a bit of hermit or coward during a majority of his life. These rumors really affected how he lived his life: quietly and alone. However, after reaching out to his community, Silas began to feel loved. An impression or lack of community can really change a person. The people of Lantern Yard gave no attention to Silas Marner and how he felt. Anthony J. D’Angelo once said, “Without a sense of caring, there can be no sense of community.” All citizens of Lantern Yard need to apply this quote to their lives.
