Sikhism is a Dharmic belief system that is established in the region of Punjab in 1469. Islam is an Abrahamic belief system that is believed to be found in the 6th century in Mecca. Although there are about 800years between the two belief systems, Islam and Sikhism have a variety of common areas. One example of a similarity between the two belief system is their concept of god. Both Islam and Sikhism are monotheistic, only believing in only one God. In Sikhism, one of the central tenets is Ik Onkar, which is a symbol that represents One Supreme Reality. According to the Shabdkosh English Punjabi dictionary, Ik means one and only, who cannot be compared to or contrasted with any other. On defines as the creator, and Kar means creation. The Rashidun Army is an example of a military force of Islam. This army was the core of the Rashidun Caliphate's armed forces in the Muslim conquests during the 7th century. Jaysh al-Islam (Army of Islam) is another Islamic military force. This army is involved in the Syrian Civil War which began in 2011 March 15. Like Islam, Sikhism also has military forces. An example is the Sikh Khalsa Army. It was formed in 1799 and was the military force of the Sikh Empire. Due to the fact that Islam has Rashidun Army, and Jaysh al-Islam and Shikism have Sikh Khalsa Army, both religions are militarized, indicating that they are similar. Despite that the two belief systems are connected in many ways, there are also a variety of differences between them such as how they were established. Islam and Sikhism are originated very differently. According to ThoughtCo, Sikhism was originated in Punjab circa 1469CE with the birth of Guru Nanak. This belief system is based on the guru's writing and teachings. Compared to Sikhism,Islam is an older religion.
