A reason why Sierra Leone is probably more corrupt that any other diamond evident country is that Sierra Leone has an unstable government, and things such as law enforcement, poor leaders and poor overall structure of government has made this the weak nation it is today. The way this country has resided in diamonds to quickly fix poverty, caused the laws of the nation to suffer from it. However, in a country such as America, we tend to have strict laws regarding everyone from government officials, to everyday citizens. Sierra Leone was a state that had a more dictator- like rule, and because of that, lead to internal and physical damage inflicted towards the government and the country. They needed a leader that would govern in the interest of the people, and not only themselves. Because the structure and the organization the government they had created was so conflicted, it infested the rest of the nation with ramped corruption. Bribery and corruption is something that has been going on for years. According to Allen, “officials perceive themselves as immune to any penalties for demanding and receiving bribes” which she states that it is one of the main reasons for bribery and corruption in underdeveloped countries. According to Transparency International, an organization committed exclusively to end corruption, three of the most corrupt countries in the world are Somalia, North Korea and Afghanistan. This does not mean that corruption is only seen in underdeveloped countries. In international business, corporate employees often find themselves dealing with corruptors in foreign countries and, in most cases, they will give in.

Sierra Leone has been through decades of resource exploitation. Also a brutal ten-year war has taken its toll on all the people and their land that they are living on. Most of these are among the poorest and the most uneducated people in the world. In Sierra Leone, mining is basically a way of living for them. When the dry season comes around many of the young men are able to dig down into the gravel. This is when they head to the diamond fields. Mining companies hire most of the men but sometimes others just do all the work for themselves and their families. Most of the men that are working for the mining companies will earn only one dollar a day. Lots of men are forced to leave school as kids to work in the mines. Sierra Leone has only just recently discovered large deposits of iron and oil. The families in Marange believe their village would be safer if they had never discovered enormous deposits of alluvial diamonds. Marange’s major challenge was the invasion of tens of thousands of miners, merchants and dealers who did not submit to the local traditional leaders. The diamond rush was followed by lots ad lots of violence. Murder and armed robberies were the most recorded attacks. Over 200 miners were shot within 5 weeks. Sabi River was the main water source. All countries need to strive to maintain strong institutions to be a good global citizen and one of the keys to this is leadership.
Many unsolved problems in many African countries, but the issue of the rise of corruption are disturbing, and the amends it has done to the polity are vast. The fear of fraud leads to restrict movement of documents in offices, slow traffic on the highways, port congestion, ghost workers syndrome, queues at passport offices, police extortion tollgates and gas stations, vote irregularities among others. Even the nutty people on the road remember the devastation caused by bribery - the funds allocated for their success disappear into some people pockets. Thus, some people believe corruption is the bane of many African countries. Corruption is the main obstacle to slow down, and knock African economy growing. The problem keeps happening in Africa, and the issue will hardly be solved.
The most effective laws are those laws that are able to coincide with what people do.
