For several years, Mississippi has had the highest poverty and lowest income rate. For Mississippians, the high tuition cost makes it hard for majority of families in rural areas to afford a college education. This problem needs to be addressed and looked at carefully. The thought of using tax payer's money to help pay for student's college education is ridiculous to many. It is actually a good idea to have free community college tuition. Mississippi should establish a state lottery that would be used to pay for community college.
In Tennessee, the taxes are taken off the winner's money, this would be used for colleges tuition. Katie Lobosco in "Tennessee Makes Community College Free for All Adults," states "Expanding the free- tuition program will cost about $10 million once fully implemented. But it will be funded by the state's lottery account , just like the rest of Tennessee Promise" (Lobosco). …show more content…

Most teenagers in rural areas do not have the finances to pay for colleges. It is a struggle for many students to purchase books, online access codes, and other resources they need. By getting a college education, this will allow students to be qualified and apply for more jobs. In this period, a person needs a college or technical degree to get a well-paying job.
Secondly, if a student has a bad situation at home, it can allow the student to get away. Having free tuition would allow students to stay in the college dorms. It could help them stay out of trouble or harmful environment. College campuses allow many more resources that could be used positively. Computer labs, English and math workshops, libraries, and teacher's office hours are all very important things that every student should be allowed to use.
