Now there's a lot of controversy about how the government has spies looking at every little thing you do on the internet and many people find it a violation of your privacy. This is very true because it our own business and no one should have the right to do so no matter who they are. Then, think again on how many lives can be saved if we were to have people watch on the things we do. Also, we could stop the bad people from doing any harm to our love ones. A lot of us will think that there are a lot of people who don't do anything and but still have surveillance on them. That's okay because if they aren't doing anything bad, then they shouldn't have any fear of getting in trouble if they are innocent. I agree that we should have surveillance on the web because it will keep us safer, and stop any attacks on us. …show more content…

After the attacks of Sept. 11 President Bush wanted people to be more safe and had to raise the security around things even if that meant motoring the computer and devise people used. That's when the President, Senate and the House of Representatives decided to pass the Patriot act to help stop terrorist and would use the same technology that would be use in drug, fraud, and organized crime. Many critics forgot to tell the people of the Patriot act and how it is helping them not destroying them making people believe this act is only to spy on the people. On May 5, 2004 the Department of Justice charged 310 defendents and since Sept 11, 2001 179 of those have been convicted and sentence to prison. Many people don't understand how well this act is working and have not even read the act fully. Most of the things they have heard are rumors that critics have heard and just

    Government seems to take away more privacy than they say they protect. In 1984 the citizens were constantly being monitored no matter where they were, there was no escape. "It was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you were in any public place or within range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could give you away" (Orwell 62). Members of the party were constantly being monitored, at even the slight sign of disloyalty they would be apprehended by the Thought Police, striking fear into the people. People had no privacy due to the government and this can now be seen today. Growing use of internet and technology makes it easier for the government to spy on us. Like in 1984 they will soon be able to track our every move. There is no way to completely remove ourselves from technology, there's are steps to take to protect privacy. A solution is to keep more records on paper instead of online. Also, what is posted on social networks should be limited. The less information you give them, the less the government knows.
