Should we explore our world’s oceans? Humans have been drawn to water, but we know nothing about our oceans. That’s why we should explore our oceans. Exploration has an important role in America’s character. Since we began the United States, we have explored. For example, “William Clark and Merriweather Lewis set out in May 1804 to explore and map the American West” (Col, 1). Another example is when John F Kennedy said, “I believe the nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning safely to earth” (Dunbar, 1). These quotes show how it is important to the American character: to set goals and learn about the unknown. If we start to set goals and accomplish them we will have a better chance at exploring the ocean, and exploring the world. …show more content…

If we don’t take into consideration exploring the ocean, we are missing out on saving lives. On oceanhealthindex.org, the author wrote, “Now these and other marine animals, plants, fungi, and bacteria are contributing directly to curing human disease” (Katona, 1). This quote means ocean animals, plants and more are used for treating human disease. Maybe there is a cure in the ocean that has not been found to cure a disease a person might have. By studying marine life, scientists gain an understanding of how the human body works and how to develop treatments when something in the human body goes wrong. Without exploring the ocean, we will not find the treatment we need to cure
