In the article “Should Community College Be Free ?” by Joanne Jacobs from Us News and World Report. The key aspect discussed in the article was whether or not students should pay for community college. I am for the idea that community college should be free because every student should be able to have the opportunity to attend community college with no cost, many students with the low-income struggle to pay for there education which discourages student to attend school and pursue in there education. For example, one reason that Joanne presented in the article was that community colleges enroll more high-needs students than four-year universities and colleges but, they spend significantly less per student. According to the American Institutes for Research Reports. Furthermore, this shows that low-income students are not getting enough support they need in order to be successful in college. Only 40 percent of community college students earn a degree in 6 years in contrast to almost 74 percent at private nonprofit schools and about 63 percent at public universities all according to the National Student Clearinghouse. This shows that community college is not doing their part in helping low-income students. It has been shown that community colleges don't provide many programs to help students in there major and during their college experience. In addition this explains that community college should not be paid for if they don't provide enough resources for the students, they shouldn't be paying for there school if there aren't programs provided to help student be successful in there major because students are not getting enough support and knowledge about their career and how to successfully pursue
