To begin with, kids are already too expensive without parents giving them extra money that they did not earn. The money that children get for being well behaved could be used for better things. It could be put towards the grocery store trip or used to go somewhere fun. In fact, according to Emily Thomas from the Huffington Post, it costs $245,340 on average to raise a child from birth to 18 years of age (that is the same price of a lake house). Children, on the other hand, won’t do anything with the money and it will just sit in their rooms. Parents will save money because children will forget to do their chores and then parents won’t have to pay them.
Second, children will think if parents give them money just for being well behaved their employer will also give them money for being well behaved, not for actually working for it. Kids need to understand that they need to work hard for a couple hours to be paid, not just sit around and not act up. Also, an employer will quickly get tired of young adults not working and just being nice. Giving children an allowance for being well behaved gives them a false sense of working in the real world. …show more content…

Springer, “A child should have to work hard for their money.” This shows that other people agree with me that it’s not a good thing for your child to get money for being well behaved. Some parents think that giving their child money for being well behaved is encouraging good behavior, but actually it’s not, it’s teaching them that they don’t have to work for money. An allowance for being well behaved is like getting paid to do nothing, though that sounds amazing, it’s not for children’s young, impressionable
