On average there are over 293,000 victims of rape and sexual assault each year in the U.S.(3) Sexual assault prevention should be taught in schools because sooner we know about it the better, If it happens to us we know what to do in that situation, and to stop the rates from increasing. Sexaul assault is a seriocus thing to talk about because people from all ages can be sexually assaulted. No one wants it happening to them. The majority of these crimes are committed by someone the victim knows. Given these circumstances, it’s important to recognize the role bystanders can play in preventing crimes like sexual assault.

Rape and sexual assault is happening at every level of education from preK to college. (2) Educators say, first by acknowledging that these problems exist and then by tackling the problem in curriculum, policy, and the very fabric of school culture and community. It's a disturbing trend that some educators and parents are reluctant to teach young kids about this especially when it involves kids so young. (2)

If schools were straight forward on teaching the kids about sexaul assault there is no way the victim’s fault and completely the fault of the perpetrator, victim blaming would be a thing of the past. If people were not educated about this then the victim may hide the fact that they were raped or sexually assaulted. (3) When it happens most people have no idea what to do in that situation. They don't know what to do because they weren't taught at a early age. When you get in that situation you want to know what to do so you are safe and can get out of that situation. 188 Over 99 percent of sexual assault perpetrators walk free. Out of 1000 rapes, 994 of the perpetrators will not be convicted. This means their crime isn't reported, or it was reported they just weren't convicted. (1) Either way, someone who has violated another person gets away with little to no punishment for their crimes. It is a serious problem that can have life threatening problems.
