In the United States rape has always been debated and argued on who is to blame or who is a fault for the actions that took place. When I had to come to terms with my own assault and finally felt like I could speak out, I was immediately hit with dozens of questions about him and me like: “Did you know him?” “Did you drink?” and “Are you sure you didn’t lead him on?”. This was when I learned that everyone’s outlook on rape and sexual assault will always differ. Theories surrounding rape are what play a major role in the difference in views and stir a lot of the controversy surrounding these crimes. Jared Wright tells how when in the military he was assaulted by leaders and other members of the platoon as a newbie.
