Anita, I wanted to write you a letter personally because you mean so much to me. I wanted to sincerely tell you how much I adore you as a nurse. I will never forget our days at East together when you precepted me (our severely preeclamptic patient who had the arm that “kept going like this”) and my face when her BP read 200/120! I also can’t forget your face when I came out shocked! You have taught me so much clinically, but also professionally. I know without you as my senior nurse to look up to, I wouldn’t be the nurse I am today. You are one of the most compassionate and empathetic people I know. You will do anything for your patients and your coworkers. You keep me laughing everyday with our corny jokes, and I will really miss it.

    A week before Christmas in 2013, my stepfather suddenly lost consciousness. His body stiffened and he began to violently convulse – he was having a seizure. Later in the hospital, the doctors informed us that my stepdad had suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. The anguish that I felt that night was eased by a nurse who talked to my family about my stepfather’s condition and assured us that the hospital would do everything that they can to assist him with recovery.
