‘We plunged toward the future without a clue’, The the words of Scott Hudson, a Freshman who is just being introduced to high school. Starting high school for anyone is always hard. When it comes to knowing where to go and who to avoid, you have to be careful, meaning staying away from seniors, juniors, and probably sophomores. Scott is constantly writing tips for his younger sibling to help him survive his days as a Freshman. Scott is constantly changing in this book because of his knowledge of high school in different aspects which compare greatly to others. In this book, Scott Hudson changed the most over time because he learned new things about high school and how to avoid the balefulness that lurks around every corner. In his first few weeks, he was able to perceive that people are who they are and they can change quickly. When Scott first walked into the school, he immediately noticed how overwhelming it was and that certain people should be left alone. Towards the end of the book, Scott learned how cultured High School really was and what new things can happen to your life. The book states; ‘Zenger High was huge. It sprawled out like a hotel that had a desperate desire to become and octopus.’ (Lubar 15). What Scott had said, tells the reader that that Scott stood in awe when he first walked into high school. They believe this because Kyle was one of Scott’s friends who was able to outlast his other friends. He started as the condescending friend of the group, who was always the one you’d want on your team. However, they are wrong because Kyle didn’t change as much as Scott did. Scott started off as a person with little confidence in completely nailing high school, to becoming the kid who everyone wanted to be.
