If students had the choice between a healthy salad or some chips and a Dr. Pepper, which would they choose? Between junk food or a school lunch, most students will choose junk food every time. Yet many students do not get to make that choice because parents and the state government make the decision for them. Making healthy foods cost more than making the regular food which means that schools are losing money. Every young person should have their say in what they eat instead of having parents and the state government decide for them. Between picking a healthy lunch or a fast food lunch, most students will choose the fast food. The Institute of Medicine updated its nutritional requirements for healthy students in 2009 and these recommendations are what schools use to shape their school lunch programs nationwide. (Junk Food) This is completely irritating, what is the problem with being fat? Because it is seen as disgusting or an obsession? In the Renaissance period, fat people were looked at as powerful and wealthy because they could afford all the food they ate. New Jersey, in 2007, became the first school to completely ban all types of junk food from school grounds; soon after, many schools did the same. (Junk Food) Why try to change the way people want to live their life? Others would not want people to be involved in their life and tell them what to eat and what not to eat, so why is it okay to step into a kid’s life and tell him or her what they will and will not eat? “Many obese people live long, healthy lives...as many as one out of three obese people are considered “obese healthy.”” (Is Obesity a Disease?)
