Salvador Dali's painting, The Sacrament of the Last Supper (Oil on canvas, 65 ¾ x 105 ½ in., c. 1955), portrays one of the most famous scenes from the Bible. This painting has been created many times throughout history by many different artists, one of the most famous is by Leonardo da Vinci, but Dali’s version is very different. Salvador Dali is most famously known for being a Surrealist artist, but that is not the only style he experimented with. After a big life change, Dali began a new era of artwork. During this era he mainly focused on recreating Biblical scenes and characters, such as the Madonna or the last supper. In The Sacrament of the Last Supper, Salvador Dali combined his surrealist background with his reawakened interest for the Renaissance period, to recreate a classic Biblical scene that symbolizes his own life. …show more content…

His first experience with painting was in 1916 when young Dali met with a friend of his father's, Ramon Pichot an Impressionist artist. Dali spent holidays with Pichot, where he discovered French Impressionism and Spanish Symbolism. He continued to spend holidays with Pichot throughout secondary school, and kept experimenting with Impressionism and Symbolism. He then attended the Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid in 1921, but was expelled in 1926 mainly because of his arrogance and rebellious actions. During this time he experimented with many different styles, such as Cubism, Futurism, Neo-Classicism, and many more. Soon after this he discovered Surrealism and his artwork changed
