In the texts “ Saigon is gone” and “ Forgotten ship” the author was trying to convey the sense of trepidation that encompassed the nation and its people when Saigon fell. One piece of evidence to support this is in “Saigon is Gone” when Ha says “ People run and scream Communists!” (68) Nobody on the ship knows it’s the communists, but since they are fleeing from them and are terrified of them, they panic on instinct and assume the worst.
