Roman Government
Imagine your country was ruled by a single ruler and not being able to have a single bit of say in the government. That’s what the Romans had for a long time until a new way of government rose. The Romans had a republic and it is much like today’s way of government in the United States. The ancient Roman republic was set up like the United States democracy. There are countries in the world that were inspired by the old Roman republic and are now using a similar way of government for their own. The Roman republic was very important during their time because people had a say in the government, variety of political leaders, and it established a sense of unity.

Rome was created by latin settlers that united in the 700’s B.C. Sometime in the 600’s B.C. an etruscan king took control over Rome and created a monarchy (Holt et. al, 2003). The Romans just wanted to be unified and then the king took control, as well as he took their sense of unity away from them. In 509 B.C. the wealthy Romans decided to attack the king because they wanted to do away with a monarchy. The Romans conquered and kicked the king out of the throne. After the battle with the king, the Romans decided they never wanted to have a single leader anymore, or a monarchy. The Romans decided to be a republic from then on. A republic had everything they wanted. A sense of unity, a variety of leaders, better rights and laws, and their say in the government. The Romans established a sense of unity, by letting the people have a say (Holt et. al, 2003). Their government was a lot like the United States’. Both establish a sense of unity.
