I came to Robert Morris as an undecided business major, but quickly discovered my passion for accounting. As I look toward my future, I know that pursuing a career in taxes is right for me. In the months preceding the start of my Federal Tax internship with KPMG, LLP this past summer, I had mixed expectations not only about the potentially difficult work I would be asked to complete, but also about how I would fit in at such a big and prestigious accounting firm with my limited experience and knowledge. In anticipation of my summer at KPMG, I would find myself searching the Internet for articles and forums with helpful advice for new coming “Big-Four” accounting interns and brushing up on some potentially helpful excel formulas. But, as my start date grew nearer, my nerves were progressively replaced with excitement and an eagerness to learn.
Doing research on what is needed to become successful in the field of business has benefited me tremendously. Meeting with a Virginia Tech Alum was a once in a lifetime opportunity. The chance to meet with a Virginia Tech Alum to help model the plans I will make to become successful was an opportunity that I’m very thankful for and will never forget. Thanks to the insights of my research and guidance received from the alumni I met with, I intend to approach my next five years in the Pamplin College of Business in a much more organized and determined manner.
As a senior at Woodside High School, it is my goal to stay focused so that I will graduate in June, the year of 2015. My grades have always been superior; I have been on the honor roll every marking period since my freshmen year in high school. I am involved in many extracurricular activities that I love participating in to help others. I have previously volunteered at Greenwood Elementary school, and also at my church. Furthermore, I have been involved in certain clubs, cheerleading, as well as the dance magnet for my four years at Woodside High.

After being accepted to Longwood University, my family and I sat down to discuss my goals. During our conversation, my sisters questioned my ability to achieve these goals, while my parents inquired why Longwood University should play a role in my aptitude for higher education. To systematically answer most of their questions, my father Larry, my sister Candyce and I set out to attend a campus tour. It was that tour which made me I fell in love with the campus and community. Through Longwood University, I have received a community of people that sincerely care about my education, my family, my health, and my dreams. As I contemplate empowering the youth and setting a standard for future generations, I must advance to become a Longwood University Master of Business Administration via the MBAdvantage Program with a concentration in Real Estate.
I’m tired of looking at the next person and wishing I was in their position. I’m tired of making excuses and pitying myself while letting opportunities slip away. From this moment onward, I am throwing away self doubt in order to take the coming steps in my life at Rutgers University. A Rutgers degree would not only mean a top tier education from one of the best schools in the world, more importantly, it would give me stability and a platform to go after my dreams. I have been given an awesome privilege to be able to call Hope College my home for the last four years. The memories I have had here will last a lifetime. From the friends I have developed with professors, students, to Phelps and Cook employees. I can honestly say that there has not been a bad experience with any of these people. It’s been awesome here at Hope! This experience has taught me many different life lessons and helped mold the legacy in which I feel I will leave behind when I am done. The legacy I want to leave behind entails one of respect, and hard working. I will tie all of these together will explicit examples from here at Hope and will end with how I plan to finish up on a positive note.
Only three short weeks ago, I was presented with the opportunity to attend school at the University of Phoenix in order to complete my degree. While I was certain that continuing school was one of my goals, I was not sure if now was the best time. Despite my wavering feelings, I made the choice to proceed. Still, while making the decision to begin attending college, I never really considered my lifetime goals as they pertained to education. While I was set on the most obvious goal of finishing college and graduating with a degree, it still felt unsettling to begin college in general.

In August of 2009 I started my first year of what I would call the rest of my life. I say this not because my experience before that time was meaningless, but because it wasn’t until college when I started learning who I was and my potential for success. During my four year tenure, there are many fond memories as there are challenging moments that have made me the person I am today. Although I strive to continually learn new information each day, I can say the time I spent at Missouri State University was well worth the time, energy, and financial loss. Starting my education at Westchester Community College was an upsetting prospect. The fact that I would not be able to have the “typical” college experiences that my peers would be having irked me. My first goal is to continue my education by earning a Master’s degree in Accounting right after completing my bachelor’s degree. The MSU’s Accounting program attracts me for both its reputation and its career opportunities available for international students. It is my responsibility as a future accountant to be really familiar and proficient at the tools accountants use regularly. Achieving my master’s degree will also help me achieving my second goal of becoming a CPA by meeting the requirement of curriculum. Thus, I am professionally and academically motivated to earn a Master’s degree of Accounting at the Broad Business College.
First and foremost, the world-class accounting scholars, including distinguished accounting historian Stephen A. Zeff- a member of The Accounting Hall of Fame, attract me. Besides their outstanding academic achievement, the rigor and zeal to students also left me a deep impression, when professor Benjamin Lansford helped me to evaluate my prerequisites over email.
My interest in the University of Tulsa is strengthened by the required practicum and field experience, as well as, excellent faculty and facilities. I intend to pursue a career in applied research and organizational consulting, therefore, these qualities are imperative to myself and my career.
At the start of my undergraduate education, I was taken aback by what I had ahead of me. Now finally out of high school, a bevy of opportunities suddenly sprang themselves upon me. I was faced with the questions of what classes to take, what to study, what to participate in, how to fend for myself, how to accomplish my goals, and countless others. After struggling with these monumental questions, I realized that, in fact, nothing had changed. I was still the same person I had always been, only now presented with much more opportunity and room to grow. Thus, rather than continuing to flounder in grandiose thought, I began to experience what only a university can offer, by embracing the infinite potential presented to me.
