On August 28, 1963, outside the Lincoln memorial in Washington D. C, Martin Luther King Jr. gave his significant “I Have a Dream” speech. In this speech, Dr. King uses all three rhetorical appeals in this speech to convey his message about racial equality. He uses pathos appeal to encourage his audience to fight for their rights and freedom without violence. He uses logos appeal throughout his speech to back up the claim that racial equality will be established in the United Sates one day. Finally, Dr. King uses ethos appeal in his speech to establish a common ground with the reader, being credible, and having authority. His use of all three rhetorical appeals helps the reader understand what they need to do in order to be one step closer
