Mak, Chiang Leung, Chui & Leung (2013, p.1184) state that “Life-long learning involves the development of skills in critical thinking (CT), effective group process (GP), and self-directedness (SDL)”. To develop such a sentence, research must of been done on lifelong learning. From my research that I have conducted, I can say my questions have not been completely answered. However, my research has shown that reading is a cognitive task the involves critical thinking and lifelong learning in the area of reading over a person’s life.
The research assignment started off with one basic question, How do you effectively teach reading in a primary school setting? To develop a deeper understanding the question was broken down into three questions. These questions where the base for my research. Graham & Kelly (2012) stated that, reading was a complex cognitive task that is performed by students. An interview with a literacy coach enable a link between the findings and past research to be made. It was made by the way the interviewee explains how students lacked comprehension when reading and were just decoding words. Therefore, when someone is reading they have to comprehend the meaning, decode the words, while also focusing on grammar and punctuation. This requires huge amounts of effort and cognitive thinking as students are not just doing a singular task. In addition, students have to realise that when comprehending the meaning of words, as some may have multiple meanings. There seems to be a shift in the educational system as program and assessment are being changed. The changing is occurring so that teachers can clearly see if the student comprehension is assessed as well as a students fluency and grammar. An interview done w...

...o the interpretation of this material” (Liedtke & Schulze, p.11 2013). Therefore, students have to develop the skills needed to interpret the different meanings words have. It was common to see students who only have one interpretation of words. This is why there has been a greater focus by teachers to develop comprehension.
From doing this researching assignment I have developed an understanding into how to effectively teach reading in a Primary school. Even though my question were done completely answer, I realised that they were opened ended questions that with all ways change over time. This is due to the complexity and ongoing changes there are to the topic of reading. But my research as shown that reading is a complex activity to teach, supported and questioned past research done on reading and finally the importance of life long learning.
Everyday there is something that one must interpret whether it is a book, movie, or even the news. One must come to one’s own conclusion about the information they are interpreting. For instance movies are mostly easier to understand then books though the plots may have slight differences.
Cokely (1992) states that there are a variety of processing models used to help understand the process of interpreting. However, while the variety of process models have subtle differences in factors and characteristics, these models share a view that interpreting is a “complex cognitive process” (p.185). The basic interpretation process model depends upon input of the source language over which the interpre...
D- The patient arrived on time for her session as she was seen outside. The patient reports, she has to see her cardiologist for 35 days at noon to monitor her blood flow sometime next month. She is also scheduled on 05/23/2016, at night to conduct her sleep apena and also, scheduled on a Tuesday for a ultrasounds, referring to her pulse to her legs to ensure there is no blockage in her legs.
Comprehension is the purpose of reading. Comprehension is the process of constructing meaning from a given text and applying that to the students background knowledge.
For example, a teacher could perfectly pass on the necessary knowledge to a student to pass a test and advance to the next level or class. But if that same teacher could nurture critical thinking skills to that same student, she would be giving his a true education that he will carry forever. Memorizing facts is a great skill, don’t get the wrong idea, but this skill has a limit to short-term time spans if the knowledge is not used constantly. With critical thinking this is not the case. An individual will be able to assess the validity of the information provide or that he has gathered and apply this information to solve any problem given. This will allow you to process information and take more logical decision. “A person with critical thinking skills is capable of upgrading his own knowledge and can easily engage in independent self-learning. He can find connections between diverse streams and pieces of knowledge and can assess the value of the information he acquires.” 1 This tells us that an individual with critical thinking skills is capable of judging to a certain extend what fragments of information he needs without being distracted by whatever information he will not find useful. With critical thinking, an individual and improve himself time and time
Communication and Collaborative among educators and parents can increase the child’s reading skills. It is the educators and parent’s job to find effective strategies that promote children’s reading. By working together, students will achieve more in educational life and it will be the greatest memories for teachers and parents to celebrate. Reading build up everything we write learn in other content areas such as science, math, and so forth. If children cannot read, their educational life will not succeed and reading performance fall below grade level. Providing reading skills in the early age of children will encourage them to read and succeed throughout their educational life.
Literacy is an on-going skill that teachers and students alike should commonly study and practice in all grades. Problems faced by teachers, especially teachers in higher grades, are not having the skills to be effective teachers of literacy. To effectively teach literacy across content areas, a teacher would need skills such as knowledge of the reading process and the ability to cultivate the knowledge gained in order to make informed decisions within their classrooms (Clary, Oglan, Styslinger,
Reading and writing is a key part of everyone’s life. There has been some encouraging levels of reading development in primary school assessments. According to the National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy report (2015), 95.5% of students achieve at or above the national minimum standard of reading. It is important to know effective ways to teach reading so children can become active problem solvers to enable them to read for meaning or for fun. Over the years, there has been a big amount of research into the most effective ways to teach reading skills to students. There are some systematically taught key skills and strategies that help achieve these levels of reading. Some of these skills include phonological awareness, phonemic awareness,
“Is There a Text in This Class?” by Stanley Fish, discusses that there can be more than one meaning to a text. One of Fish’s first points was that people usually make assumptions of a meaning based on context and their personal experiences. Context is usually embedded within the language, so people must decode the meaning through how they interpret the context. Fish mentions that people tend to always go with the meaning that is most accessible and that their interpretation of the meanings of a text will be ranked according to the situation.
Such views influence both L1 and L2 reading studies. Kern (2000) explains the importance of the social and personal interpretation of reading, he says that readers have the freedom to interpret texts in any way they like if they do not deviate from the so-called interpretive constraints. In terms of fo...
They state how many academic teachers will focus on one exclusive strategy, like annotating, instead of embedding it in the student cognitive process. (Simpson, Anderson, and Stahl, 2014). This will not lead to them learning, rather it will only lead to knowing the one strategy. This is one of the problems with the testing that is used for students and reading, because the tests only focus on annotating and mapping, which would be considered acceptable learning. The authors believe that it takes more, as they have stated before, the cognitive based embedded theories such as, selecting, summarizing, organizing, elaborating, monitoring, self-testing, reflecting, and evaluating helps students build their own personal theories they can use to help the in studying, learning and reading. (Simpson, Anderson, and Stahl, 2014). The strategies that students learn through these processes can be used and molded to any academic subject, and one believes that this was the author 's main

Have you ever thought to yourself, “I need a way to enhance my learning and achieve success?” What better way to do so with changing your learning process. There are many learning processes people go by, but may I just say, lifelong learning is a head in the right direction. Lifelong learning can be defined as “the combination of processes throughout a lifetime whereby the whole person experiences social situations, the perceived content of which is then transformed cognitively, emotively, and practically… resulting in a continually changing person” (Aberton 1). Intelligence and education are essential to achieve
Many students have a hard time when it comes to reading. There are many reading inventions that can help students out. Reading inventions are strategies that help students who are having trouble reading. The interventions are techniques that can be used to assist in one on ones with students or working in small groups to help students become a better reader. Hannah is a student who seems to be struggling with many independent reading assignments. There can be many reasons that Hannah is struggling with the independent reading assignments. One of the reasons that Hannah can be struggling with is reading comprehension while she is reading on her on. Reading comprehension is when students are able to read something, they are able to process it and they are able to understand what the text is saying. According to article Evidence-based early reading practices within a response to intervention system, it was mentioned that research strategies that can use to help reading comprehension can include of activating the student’s background knowledge of the text, the teacher can have questions that the student answer while reading the text, having students draw conclusions from the text, having
